Client Overview
For the better part of the last two years I have worked as a UX/UI design contractor with the AAMC (Association of American medical Colleges). While at the AAMC, I collaborated with key stakeholders, product and development teams, and end users to deliver creative, thoughtful solutions for the future learners of America.
My Contributions
I was the lead designer on 2 modernization projects and 4 angular upgrades, consulted on 3 different user engagements, and provided ad-hoc support on numerous feature enhancements. I collaborated with product owners, engineers, and key stakeholders to understand requirements, and provide creative, thoughtful solutions that align with business goals and objectives.
Example of work from AMCAS® for Schools
Enhancing the way
Medical Schools process admissions
Currently, AMCAS for Schools is using an outdated application to help maintain their critical functions during the admissions process. Not only does this application not meet the needs of its users, but it also runs on legacy technology and has some functionality that, to this date, no one really knows what it does. As we worked to modernize, we wanted to provide schools a meaningful application that will allow them to easily complete their tasks and view data in an intuitive way to make effective and fast decisions during the application cycle.
AMCAS for Schools will strive to be the central hub for admissions processing for all medical schools, that will provide meaningful information and data as well as an intuitive modern user experience to manage the AMCAS application process

Understanding the Journey
Medical school application cycles expand over an 18 month timeline. Within this process, medical school admin users are expected to setup, process, and report on applications related to their various programming. We talked with key stakeholders to get a better understanding of user actions and insights, and began mapping these alongside our two additional user types (AMCAS Staff members and Applicants). Finally, we overlayed this journey map with the variety of features and reports related to application processing to create the journey map seen below.

Defining the Flow
Because AMCAS Staff members have to issue out a paper survey for Medical School admin to complete by hand. Once receiving the completed surveys, the AMCAS Staff members then upload each response manually. This process turned out to be laborious & time consuming for both Medical School users and AMCAS Staff members.

Automating Admissions Offerings
The end result was a new feature for AMCAS® for Schools call Program Configuration. From here, Medical School users could configure their entire admissions offering for the current and upcoming application cycles. By digitizing the process, AMCAS Staff were alleviated of al responsibilities concerning collecting & upload program data, and Medical School admin were provided flexibility within their application cycle preparations, therefore, increasing efficiency and ease of use for both user types.

How it Works
Program Configuration is broken down into two parts; Admissions Information and Programs Offered. For a roughly three-month time span, medical school users can input all pertinent information using the newly implemented, streamlined form approach. This aligns with the business goals of automating the data collection, while maintaining a flexible, focused user experience.
